Heidelberg
“I lost my heart in Heidelberg…”
Romantic on the
Neckar river
“A city that is worth every love affair” is what you can read about Heidelberg. And old song lyrics also say: “I lost my heart in Heidelberg…”
How the city is nestled between the Neckar
and the foothills of the Odenwald and captivates
with its dreamy romance around the
castle
and
the
Old Bridge
.
It goes without saying that as soon as visitors arrive in Heidelberg, they immediately want to see the castle perched 70 meters above the Neckar River. With the
Heidelberg Mountain Railway
takes you quickly from the “Kornmarkt” in the old town up to the castle, where you can enjoy a wonderful view of Heidelberg and the Neckar valley. Tip: If you want to go further up after the castle tour, you can experience something special. From the “Molkenkur” station, take one of the oldest electrically operated mountain railroads to the Königstuhl, the highest point in the city, at an altitude of over 550 meters.
The best place to store is in the picturesque alleyways of the old town: in the
lower street
, in the
Steingasse
,
in the
Haspelgasse
or in the
March Lane
.
The car-free
main street
– lined with bistros, cafés and restaurants – is one of the longest and most beautiful pedestrian zones in Europe and Heidelberg’s shopping mile par excellence. In addition to well-known chain stores, there are also interesting owner-managed stores between Bismarckplatz and Marktplatz.
